Tutorial #3 - Customization
Customization is an important aspect of any
database program. It is not enough to choose
what data to display, it is also necessary to
display it the way you want to see it. This
tutorial walks you through some of the
customization possibilities of Movie Label.
Choose fields to display
in the Views
The
first step of customization is probably to
choose what columns to display in the Views,
what data you want to see when browsing your
movie database. To achieve this, choose
Customize Current View from the Tools- or
right-click menu. This will open a Customization
window showing all available columns (that are
not yet displayed in the current view). To
add/remove columns simply drag them from the
customization window and drop them in the
desired place in the header. You can also remove
columns by dragging them from the header and
dropping them on the Customization window. You
can also change the order in which the fields
appear in the header, by a simple drag and drop
into the new position. Note that
the
Customization window does not need to be
displayed in order for you to re-order your
fields.
Note that you can create multiple line views by
dropping a field just below the header row. This
feature is a powerful feature of Movie Label and
it enables you to take view customization to the
next step.

When you customize the Thumbnails
and Cards view; you drop the field in the place
you want it to appear in the list. As with the
regular views, you can drag and drop fields to
change the order of which they are displayed.
Note that the Customization window does not need
to be displayed in order for you to re-order
your fields.
Sizing
You
can size fields by dragging the right end of the
column header to the desired with. In the
Thumbnails and Cards view you can size the width
of each "card" by dragging the splitter left and
right. This enables you to show more or less
cards at a time in the view.
Grouping
Another powerful feature in Movie Label is
the possibility to group instantly on any field,
by simply drag and dropping it into the Group By
box (above the views). You can group in as many
levels as you wish and remove them as easily by
dragging and dropping them back into position in
the header.
Different views for same
data
The
possibility to create your own views enables you
to create any number of views with different
layouts. You can even select what data to view
in using the filter. This enables you to
e.g. create a view called "My action movies"
that only show your action movies. To create a
view click the 'Create a View'-button in the
toolbar.
