Tutorial #1 - Adding your Music

Since getting your data into the database is the biggest task, Music Label is written to make your job as hassle free as possible. Data about CDs are downloaded from the Internet (CDDB2 database) and data about digital files are grabbed from the tag in the file. This tutorial takes you through the process of adding your CDs and vinyls. Another tutorial (Handling Digital Audio) describes how to catalog your digital music files.

Add Music Wizard
Make sure you are in the Music section and then click the New-button in the toolbar. The Add Music Wizard will then open. This Wizard will guide you through the process of adding any kind of music to your music database.

Choose to add 'Music CD or Vinyl' and then click the Next-button. You will then be presented with the different options that Music Label offers for adding your CDs and vinyls.

Download data from CDDB2 (CD FastScan)
The CDDB2 is an online database with the content of most CD’s. Music label links your CD’s to the CDDB and thus fills the database with the track information of your CD’s automatically. The only thing you need to do is put your CD’s in your CD/DVD drive. Our CD FastScan feature helps you to open and close the CD drive, so all you need to do is to start CD FastScan, click Start and then switch CDs in the drive when the drive opens. CDDB2 does not contain cover art but you can check an option to download this from Amazon (on the CD FastScan settings page). You can also do this later by marking one or several entries and choosing 'Download Cover Art' from the Action-menu.

Artist/Title search using Vinyl Query
This type of search let you add a CD or vinyl by typing the name of the Artist and/or Title. This data is not as complete as the data retrieved from CDDB2 though (but you don't need to insert each CD to catalog your music). The database used by Vinyl Query is Amazon's online database.

Manual Input
CDs that can't be found in any of the above databases can be added manually. If you have the CD inserted and click the 'Associate CD'-button while adding a CD manually; the length of each track will be added automatically.
